Creative students who can mix art and science are invited to submit their best water works to compete for prizes in King County’s Reclaimed Water Art and Writing Contest.
The contest theme – “Water’s Memories: A Drop of Water Never Dies, Tell the Stories of its Many Lives” – relates to the fact that all water on earth is continually being recycled and reused.
King County speeds up this natural recycling process at its treatment plants to create highly treated reclaimed water, a valuable resource suitable for almost any use except drinking.
Students are asked to incorporate the theme of recycling or reusing water into any medium of visual artwork or form of writing. Pieces can reflect on the natural water cycle, the importance of an infinite clean water supply, or the possibilities for using reclaimed water in communities throughout the world.
The contest is open to all students in grades 4-12 and college undergraduates in King County or in the King County Wastewater Treatment Division service area.
Entries are due June 1. Prizes include a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, passes to the Burke Museum in Seattle and gift cards to local businesses.
Additional information, contest rules and entry forms are available on the Web at

People also can call 206-684-1280 or 711 TTY.
Winning art works will be displayed at the 24th annual WateReuse Symposium at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle, Sept. 13-16.
