Man arrested for shooting at 2 Auburn Police officers

A 23-year-old man is in custody after firing a shotgun at two Auburn Police officers early Wednesday morning.

A 23-year-old man is in custody after firing a shotgun at two Auburn Police officers early Wednesday morning.

An Auburn Police officer was preparing to contact a suspicious man in the 100 block of 11th Street Southeast around 12:47 a.m. Before the officer was able to exit his vehicle, the subject shot at the officer, striking the windshield on the driver’s side. The man fled the area southbound on foot.

A second officer who responded to the area to assist was then shot at in the 1200 block of A Street Southeast. The officer’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s door. The second officer returned fire, with one round, as the man fled eastbound.

Officers found the suspect hiding in a yard in the 100 block of 12th Street Southeast, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

A shotgun was recovered where the man was taken into custody.

Auburn Police is investigating.
