An Auburn man who was charged with molesting two 4-year-old girls at a Renton daycare center was sentenced to 15 months in prison and 36 months of community custody Oct. 27.
Ivan Jovahnni Anaya, 23, has to register as a sex offender and was ordered to complete sexual deviancy treatment. He also agreed to a lifetime civil sexual assault protection orders, as part of his plea agreement.
Anaya was arrested June 29, 2016 at his Auburn apartment after allegations he put his hands down the underpants of one child and stuck his tongue into the mouth of another child. He worked at The Orchards Child Care Center as a teacher’s aide, and was fired following the allegations.
He pleaded guilty to first-degree child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
As part of his plea bargain, Anaya has also agreed not to refile civil lawsuits against the victims’ families.
The Renton Police Department began investigating the case June 13, 2016 when officers were dispatched to investigate a sex offense.
According to the probable cause documents, the mother of one of the victims was watching TV with her then 4-year-old daughter, when the child asked her mother to open her mouth so she could see her teeth. The mother opened her mouth and the daughter stuck her tongue into the mother’s mouth. The mother immediately pushed her daughter aside and said, “We don’t do that.”
The daughter responded, “Mr. Ivan does,” and said Anaya showed her a “different way to kiss.”
She said Anaya “gives her Skittles, asks her to open her mouth, sticks his tongue in her mouth and she sucks it out.” She also said Anaya told her to keep her “promise” and he would not tell her teacher.
The mother contacted the school to relay the information about Anaya. He was placed on administrative leave.
The school met with parents on June 13, 2016, and advised them of the allegations without giving out Anaya’s name and asked them to speak to their children.
Following the meeting, a parent of another student contacted the school to report that his daughter told him about “Ivan touching her butt.” She also said Anaya pointed to her “private area” and said the man touched her there. He said Anaya told her he was her teacher and she shouldn’t disobey the teacher.
She re-told the story to a child forensic specialist a few days later.
Anaya was originally held on $15,000 bail, but prosecutors requested the amount be increased to $150,000 because of the seriousness of the charges and the “concerning reports about the defendant made by other children.”
