Between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 282 calls for service, among them the following:
Jan. 30
Wires down: 5 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of wires down near a residence on Auburn Way South arrived to find the cable and phone lines mysteriously cut. Firefighters marked the area with scene tape and contacted Century Link.
Jan. 31
Assault: 1:14 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated and stabilized a man in his 30s who’d been assaulted and struck with an axe. The man suffered a significant wound to his arm. Firefighters bandaged the wound and applied a tourniquet before a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Water leak: 8:39 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a broken water heater in a second-floor apartment, where they found three apartments flooded. Firefighters shut off the water to the building and used squeegees to extract the water as best they could from all three apartments. Firefighters stayed on the scene until maintenance and water extraction crews could get there.
Feb. 1
Accident: 12:24 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident in the Lowe’s parking lot, where they found the two vehicles involved, both showing moderate front-end damage. Firefighters helped two people and transported one to MAMC for further treatment.
Feb. 2
Aid call: 2 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters treated a man for shoulder injuries he’d sustained after falling off of his motorcycle, and then a private ambulance transported him to MAMC.
Aid call: 6:10 p.m. (Bonney Lake). Firefighters responded to a mutual aid call in Bonney Lake for an older gentleman who had been bitten by a dog. Personnel treated the man’s injuries and then turned his care over to East Pierce Fire and Rescue Medics, who transported him to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Feb. 4
Residential fire: 9:23 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a house fire on the 16900 block of Southeast Auburn Black Diamond Road arrived to find an attic fire that had burned through the roof. Firefighters from King County District 44, Puget Sound Fire, and the VRFA extinguished the fire, containing it to the attic. The fire is under investigation.
Feb. 5
Overdose: 1:17 p.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters helped a teenaged girl who had overdosed on prescription medication, and then a private ambulance zipped her to MAMC.
