Man wounded in drive-by shooting, son in back seat unhurt

Police say shooters fired from former girlfriend's car

At 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Auburn Police responded to a report of multiple gun shots on 21st Street Southeast in Auburn.

According to Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman, a man in his early thirties was parked in his former girlfriend’s driveway with their 5-year-old son in the back seat. The former girlfriend and two men drove to her house and, while still in her car, fired several rounds from a handgun at the man. The man, who was still in his car, returned fire with his handgun before fleeing the scene.

The man was stopped a few blocks away with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center. The boy was not injured but did have his father’s gun in his pocket when Auburn officers contacted him.

The girlfriend and two other men were found later Wednesday and taken into custody.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of the dispute, and the investigation continues,” Hirman said.
