Four Pacific Police officers were given letters of Pre-Termination of Employment from Pacific Mayor Cy Sun this week.

The four officers, all involved in the arrest of Sun last Thursday, will appear at a Loudermill Hearing at 9 a.m. tomorrow. The hearing is part of the officer’s due process and allows them to respond to Sun’s reasons for attempting to terminate them.

According to a letter sent from Sun to the ranking officer at the time of his arrest (the officers are not being named at the request of the Pacific Police Department) the reasons for the firing of the officers are: gross insubordination; unlawful harassment and discrimination; discourteous and prejudicial conduct; and willful and intentional violation of lawful orders.

The letter also accuses the officers of “unlawful anarchy and mutiny against the City of Pacific.”

“Finally, this written memo is to confirm that as of July 19, at approximately 1:25 p.m., you were fired, discharged from the City of Pacific employment for your supervision resulting in my arrest and incarceration,” Sun wrote.

This past Thursday, Sun was arrested for attempting to enter the locked and taped off city clerk’s office at Pacific City Hall. He was later released and not charged.

A press release from the Pacific Police Department also addressed rumors about Sun appointing himself as chief of police.

“Questions keep arising as to the Mayor’s qualifications and self appointment to the rank of chief of police. The Mayor is not the chief of police. He has the authority to appoint this position but is not qualified to act within the scope of that position.”

Sun is currently under investigation by the King County Sheriff’s Office for destroying city documents.
