Six Mt. Baker Middle School eighth-graders captured the Association of Learning Environments (ALE) Pacific Northwest Regional SchoolsNext competition.
The team entry was a 3-D model, a PowerPoint presentation, a video and an 850-word narrative of a model school of the future.
The competition challenges students to think creatively as they plan and design tomorrow’s 21st century learning environments to enhance innovative ways of teaching and learning, be healthy, conserve resources, be environmentally responsive and engage the surrounding community.
The team of eighth-graders included Alaya Hill; Kavreen Jheeta; Jake Nielsen; Eddie Sihalathavong; Gabreil Tovar and Derek Wirachowsky. Seattle architect Michael Davis from Bassetti Architects is the team mentor. Mt. Baker teacher Bruce Jacobs leads the team.
After winning the state title, the team competed regionally and took second place. They will present its project at the ALE chapter dinner at Emerald Downs on Wednesday night.
