A 48-year-old Kent man injured last Friday while riding a motorcycle along State Route 18 in Auburn remained in satisfactory condition Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Chad J. Brink was moved out of intensive care on Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
A motorcycle and four vehicles were involved in the accident as traffic snarled just after 6 p.m. on eastbound SR 18, just west of State Route 164 at milepost 3, according to a State Patrol accident report.
Brink was riding a Yamaha motorcycle and had moved into another lane when he reportedly struck a car from behind, pushing it into another vehicle, which rammed a fourth car that had stopped in the congestion, according to the report. Brink was separated from his motorcycle on impact. The bike came to rest in a lane and was struck by a fifth car. He was airlifted to Harborview.
One driver, a 54-year-old Auburn man in the fourth involved car, was injured in the chain-reaction accident and taken to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Nobody else was injured.
The State Patrol listed following too close as the cause of the accident. Drugs and alcohol were not involved, and no charges were filed, according to the report.
