Neighbor helps douse apartment fire, frees trapped occupant

A quick-responding neighbor helped douse an apartment fire in northeast Auburn early Thursday morning, allowing the trapped occupant to escape without injury.

A quick-responding neighbor helped douse an apartment fire in northeast Auburn early Thursday morning, allowing the trapped occupant to escape without injury.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority and Kent Fire Department responded at 4:52 a.m. to a report of an upper deck on fire with a subject trapped. VRFA units discovered the fire had been extinguished by a neighbor with a garden hose, enabling the resident to escape.

Firefighters made sure the fire was completely extinguished.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

Fire investigators are the scene to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
