Janice Nelson is retiring after 16 years of service as an Auburn School District Board member.
The school board celebrates Nelson’s service with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the board room of the James P. Fugate Administration Building, 915 Fourth St. NE.
All community members are welcome to attend.
Nelson, a tireless advocate for students, has focused on finding opportunities for others. She spends many hours building relationships with community organizations and events such as the Soroptimists, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, Uniquely Auburn committee and the Reaching Out Fair.
“Janice has been a fabulous strategic leader at both the district and state level,” said Auburn School District Superintendent Kip Herren. “She has been central to the ASD Board’s four consecutive years of recognition as a Washington State School Board of Distinction.”
Nelson has lived in Auburn since 1992, and her daughter graduated from Auburn High School. She is a program manager at Trillium, an employment service for people with developmental disabilities.
