The City of Algona has a new neighborhood park.

The park, which opened Tuesday at 7th Avenue North on Main Street, is a result of several years of effort. It started as a series of discussions among Mayor David Hill, the City Council and the developer.

In August 2007, the developer donated the property to Algona.

Officials began the planning process by having two public meetings to gather suggestions on what playground equipment to install.

“We had some very knowledgeable residents come to the meetings. Some even did research on the Internet and brought in pictures,” said Kevin Caviezel, community service and event planner for the City. “We had some great ideas.”

The park was built in phases and equipment was put in place. Benches and a table are planned to be installed next year to complete the project.

This is the first park in the north end of Algona.
