Ballots for the recall election of Pacific Mayor Cy Sun are expected to arrive in mailboxes this week.

According to Kim van Ekstrom, King County Department of Elections chief communications officer, the ballots for the June 25 special election were mailed on Wednesday.

“They should be showing up in mailboxes on Thursday and Friday,” van Ekstrom said.

According to the ballot, Pacific voters will decide whether to remove Sun from office for allegedly committing malfeasance and violating his oath of office.

The mayor allegedly attempted to use Pacific officers as his personal police force and put the City’s liability insurance at risk by failing to properly fill vacant city staff openings.

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by June 25 to be counted. Ballots can be turned in at the 24-hour, King County Elections Department, 919 SW Grady Way, Renton.

A mobile drop box van will be stationed at the Algona-Pacific library branch, 255 Ellingson Road, Pacific, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 22, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 25.

Voters should fill out their ballots as soon as possible, Van Ekstrom recommended.

“We encourage them to do it sooner rather than later,” she said.

Anyone who hasn’t received his or her ballot by the middle of next week should call the department at 206-296-VOTE (8083) or they can request a new ballot by mail.

A simple majority is needed to recall Sun. Results should be certified by July 9.
