Auburn police responded to the following calls for service between Jan. 9
and Jan. 10:
JAN. 9
Assault: 2 a.m., 1900 block of 36th Street Southeast. A man beat his girlfriend so viciously she had to be hospitalized. The girlfriend beater fled the scene but later told family members he meant to turn himself in.
Shoplifting: 2:27 p.m., 101 Auburn Way S. A hungry dude of undefined age tried to steal a meal from Safeway, but security caught him and police hauled him off to jail. Police did not disclose a value for the purloined commestibles.
Assault: 6:07 p.m., 900 block of Auburn Way South. A woman told police that her ex-boyfriend assaulted her by spitting in her face three times and hitting her on the side of the head. The man was gone by the time police arrived. The woman complained of pain, but did not want medical treatment. She admitted to calling the boyfriend on the phone prior to the assault, despite a no-contact order that had made such contact a big no-no.
Theft from motor vehicle: 8:30 p.m., 635 C St. SW. Thieves broke into several cars while they were parked at the Longhorn Barbecue. Police did not disclose a value for the losses and in fact were close lipped as to whether anything was stolen at all.
Trespassing: 11:55 p.m., 440 16th St. NE. Two guys started aiming hostile fists at each other at BB McGraws, so management told them to get out and stay out.
JAN. 10
Trespassing: 11:42 a.m., 2331 Dogwood St. SE. Two men familiar to police for a plethora of dirty deeds were caught trespassing at the Mr. Sudsy Car Wash. They were cited and released at the scene.
Vandalism: 2:50 p.m., 30900 block of 124th Avenue Southeast. Persons unknown broke a window at Lea Hill Elementary School. Police did not disclose a value.
Theft: 3:58 p.m., 340 E. Main St. Somebody unknown swiped a girl’s unattended purse at Auburn High School. Police did not disclose a value.
Theft from motor vehicle: 9:51 p.m., 1702 Auburn Way N. A woman told police that somebody stole her handbag, her GPS and her PDA from her vehicle while she was returning her shopping cart at Top Foods. Police did not disclose a value.
