An Auburn police motorcycle officer was injured after colliding with a vehicle in front of Auburn City Hall at 25 W. Main St. Tuesday afternoon.
Officer Patrick Douglas was transported to Harborview Medical Center via Airlift Northwest with a broken wrist. He was released from the hospital at 2 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery. The driver of the other vehicle, a 66-year-old man, was shaken but uninjured.
Douglas was traveling west on Main Street and approaching Division Street while responding to a collision. His lights and siren were activated while he was passing stopped vehicles on the left in the eastbound lanes. As he attempted to cross Division, the driver of a 1996 Volvo was waiting to make a left turn. Just as Douglas crossed the intersection, the driver of the Volvo turned left and clipped the back end of the motorcycle. This caused Douglas to lose control, and he struck another vehicle on the other side of the intersection.
Personnel from the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the call at 4:23 p.m. Auburn police are investigating the incident.
Douglas has been with the department for eight years and assigned to the traffic unit for two years.
