Auburn Police detectives and 15 members of King County’s Search and Rescue Team cleared brush and scoured a field near the intersection of South 277th Street and 55th Avenue South last Saturday.

But if the search turned up anything, police are keeping mum.

“We are not discussing whether or not the search on 277th and 55th Avenue turned up anything,” Auburn Police Cmdr. Mike Hirman said Tuesday afternoon. “We don’t want the suspect to know this information.”

Last Saturday’s search was launched off credible tips from citizens about suspicious activity that may be related to the bloody items found on Peasley Canyon Drive last week.

An off-duty agent of the Federal Protective Service driving on Peasley Canyon Drive on Wednesday afternoon spotted a fire in the woods. He stopped and got out of his car to put it out with an extinguisher when he saw a man next to a dark SUV, burning along the roadside what turned out to be blood-soaked carpeting, towels and flooring.

When the man saw the agent, according to police, he jumped in the SUV and fled westbound. The agent was unable to read the license plate.

The Washington State Patrol crime lab determined late last week that the blood found on items at the scene is human, according to Auburn Police.

In the meantime, investigators continue to get tips from citizens and tp track down viable leads. Tips have led them to several locations throughout the city and into unincorporated King County.

“There are specific pieces of information that surfaced with both the Peasley Canyon scene and the area at 277th and 55th Avenue that hold credibility, and not what we want the public to know, unless they personally witnessed this activity,” Hirman said.

“We are working diligently to find other evidence and a possible victim. These efforts have led us to other locations, based on the tips coming in … Red light cameras and traffic ITS cameras have been and continue to be looked at,” Hirman added.
