Rapper Nelly has been released from jail without charges following his Saturday morning arrest for an alleged rape, according to reports.
Auburn Police arrested Nelly after a woman on his tour bus called authorities claiming she was raped.
Nelly performed Friday night at the White River Amphitheatre.
Police said they had probable cause to arrest the rapper, and he was booked into the SCORE jail in Des Moines for second-degree rape.
The rapper tweeted of his release on Saturday night:
“To be absolutely clear. I have not been charged with a crime therefore no bail was required. I was released, pending further investigation.”
Auburn Police arrested Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., and was booked Saturday after being arrested at about 4:37 a.m. in his tour bus at the Walmart on Outlet Collection Way in Auburn.
At 12:23 a.m. Saturday, between the show and his arrest, Nelly tweeted, “its (sic) really you against the whole world because the whole world don’t know you exist.”
Nelly, 42, is a three-time Grammy winner. His song, “Hot in Herre,” won the best male rap solo performance award in 2002.
The following year, Nelly shared a Grammy for the song, “Shake Ya Tailfeather” with Murphy Lee and Sean Combs.
He is also known for the hits, “My Place” and “Over and Over.” He appeared in the 2005 film,”The Longest Yard.”
Nelly is a minority owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
