The Auburn Domestic Violence Task Force – in collaboration with the Auburn Soroptimists and CCRADV.org, a nonprofit agency – presents a regional law enforcement rally Friday on the front steps of the Norm Maleng Regional Justice, 401 Fourth Avenue N., Kent.

The program, which kicks off the Domestic Violence Awareness Month of October, runs from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Auburn task force, brings together law enforcement, domestic violence advocates, treatment providers, survivors and citizens, to rally against domestic violence.

Police officers from King County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn, Kent, Federal Way and other South King agencies will gather along with the King County Prosecutor’s Office and municipal prosecutor’s offices.

The rally will move from the outside steps to the third floor rotunda in the event of inclement weather.

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg and other local law enforcement officials will be on hand at the rally. Speakers will address the efforts of law enforcement, legislators and community response to the “realities of domestic violence.”

A line of patrol cars from several South King County agencies will be parked on the large sidewalk in front of the entrance. Attending officers will be present and ready to display the purple ribbon in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

At the rally, the KCPAO DV Unit will present the 16th annual Norm Maleng Law Enforcement Award to two outstanding officers in recognition of their efforts to combat domestic violence.

Also honored will be four outstanding officers from the City of Auburn in recognition of their efforts against domestic violence, as well as a community award given to a citizen for her many years of service in her domestic violence awareness and prevention efforts.
