Local folks did a whole lotta walking to fight cancer last Friday at Auburn’s Memorial Stadium and raised a lot of money.

“As of today we raised just under $139,000, which is pretty amazing,” Katie Merritt, community relationship manager for the American Cancer Society of King County, said of the Auburn Relay for Life. “Their net goal was $134,000, but we’re still raising money. I think everybody had a really, really good time, and there were just so many people there, and everything went really smoothly.”

Merritt said 93 teams took the field this year, almost 30 more than expected.

“I don’t know why we had so many people show up, but I think it’s a matter of getting information out to the public and just cultivating those relationships,” Merritt said.
