The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 294 calls for service between June 24 and June 30, among them the following:
June 24
Commercial fire: 1:43 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters helped neighboring fire agencies with a confirmed fire at a two-story apartment building. Initial crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions and multiple occupants evacuating. Firefighters worked aggressively to combat the fire and minimize damage to surrounding units. VRFA units assisted in command operations, ventilation control, and searching for potential occupants. One pet perished in the fire, and several civilians were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
June 25
Rope rescue call: 4:07 p.m. (Enumclaw). Firefighters responded to a technical rescue call for a man who had rolled his ATV down an embankment and was injured. The patient was extracted from under the ATV and lowered down the embankment using a high-angle rope rescue system. He was treated by King County Medic One paramedics and transported via Airlift Northwest.
June 26
Brush fire: 7:20 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to an unknown type of fire in a wooded area near Mill Pond Park. Engine 332 arrived to find a smoldering tree stump that appeared to have been burning for several days. Firefighters used hand tools and power tools to dig out the smoldering material and extinguish the remaining hot spots.
June 27
Vehicle fire: 11:01 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a passenger vehicle fire on an off-ramp of Highway 167. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and no occupants were injured.
June 28
Car vs. pedestrian: 3:50 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a low-speed car vs. pedestrian collision. The patient was treated at the scene and transported by a VRFA aid car to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
June 29
Smoke investigation: 4:48 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters were called to investigate smoke and a possible illegal burn. They found a resident burning a pile of yard debris. The crew extinguished the fire using the booster line and informed the homeowner that burning yard waste in the city is prohibited.
June 30
Car fire: 11 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and a VRFA Deputy Fire Marshal responded to a fully involved vehicle fire. The blaze was extinguished, and the scene was turned over to APD for further investigation.
