School board passes resolution in opposition of I-1033

The Auburn School District Board of Directors passed Resolution No. 1119 in opposition of Initiative 1033 during the Oct. 12 public school board meeting.

The board asks voters to reject I-1033 on the Nov. 3 ballot due to the following issues:

• I-1033 will reduce state revenue by an estimated $5.9 billion by 2015.

• I-1033 is on the ballot in a year when the Washington Legislature reduced funding for K-12 public schools by $1.5 billion, cuts that have negatively impacted our local schools, staff and students.

• I-1033 would clearly hurt the state’s efforts to promote student learning, achievement and school accountability.

• I-1033 will have a devastating impact on K-12 education in the local community and in the state of Washington.

King County voters can complete their ballots and drop them in the mail by Nov. 3, or return their ballots without the cost of postage using the King County drop box at the Auburn Library, 1102 Auburn Way South. Pierce County voters can send their mail-in ballots or vote at their local poll sites.
