Search called off for boy presumed drowned in the Green River

Seriously inclement weather expected Friday has delayed the planned search of the Green River for 13-year-old Austin Fuda, who died in an automobile accident last month.

Heavy rains and strong winds are expected Friday morning, followed by what the National Weather Service is calling the “cold snap of the century” beginning in the afternoon.

Officials said the expected severe weather will make the river search too dangerous for divers.

Fuda, who is presumed drowned, has been missing since the car he was riding in plunged into the Green River near the Auburn Golf Course on Nov. 7.

Divers from the King County Sheriffs Office, along with divers from the Snohomish County Sheriffs Office, were planning Friday to search in and along the river, starting where the car went off the roadway on Green River Road Southeast.

The accident killed Fuda’s cousin, 2-year-old Hunter Beaupre. The two boys were passengers in a Volkswagen Beetle driven by a 16-year-old girl, a relative of one of the boys, who lost control of the car along a windy stretch of Green River Road, north of the golf course. The girl tried to save the boys, but the river swept the car 100 yards downstream.
