The SEATTLE KingCounty REALTORS® have announced an early candidate endorsement for Nancy Backus for Auburn mayor. Sam Pace of SEATTLE KingCounty REALTORS® presented the endorsement last Sunday.
“Auburn has a great City Council and they will work well with this mayor,” Pace said. “Auburn is way ahead of the pack based on the work that Nancy and her colleagues have done and we need to carry that forward. They have a great foundation and, with Nancy as the new mayor Auburn, can carry it forward even further.”
Backus has served on the City Council since 2003 and is the deputy mayor, vice chair of the planning and community development committee and chair of the council operations committee. She served as chair of the finance committee from 2003-2011. She also serves on the board of governance for the Valley Regional Fire Authority.
A longtime financial manager for The Boeing Co., Backus oversees development of organization budgets, forecasting and reporting for employment, overhead, and capital funding and manages a team of entry through senior professional level finance employees.
Backus says she will resign her position at Boeing to become the full-time mayor.
“We know how to build partnerships,” Backus said. “No one can do it alone. We have bright creative minds and a great city council. We can do it and we can do it together. I feel very blessed and humbled by the support.”
