Sen. Tracy Eide, D-King County, sponsored Delaney Farrell as a Senate page. Delaney, a 15-year-old from Auburn, is a student at Columbia Junior High of Fife.
Students from schools across Washington arrive in Olympia every week to serve in the Senate Page Program at the Washington State Legislature.
Senate pages carry mail between offices and relay messages to the Senate floor. Pages must attend page school while working at the legislature. Pages must also participate in mock hearings, write their own bills, and engage in debates.
Delaney likes to study chemistry and physics. She has several hobbies that she enjoys as well, including dancing, marching band, scrapbooking and baking.
One of Delaney’s favorite moments in the paging program was meeting Sen. Eide.
“Working on the floor was so cool, especially seeing how bills are passed,” Delaney said. “I think that it’s something that every youth should experience because it’s cool and educational.”
Page positions provide valuable civic and employment experiences for Washington state youth. Additional information on becoming a Senate page is available at http://www.leg.wa.gov/Senate/Administration/PageProgram.
