The South King County Colts stumbled 21-9 against the Kitsap County Bears in the Pacific Football League semi-pro season opener this past Saturday at Silverdale Stadium.
The Colts were led by quarterback Micah Prescott, who completed 12-of-25 passing attempts for 168 yards and a touchdown and two interceptions. Wide receiver Anthony Montgomery hauled in four catches for 121 yards and the Colts’ only touchdown, which came on a 23-yard pass with three minutes left in the game.
South King County linebacker Brandon Williams was the catalyst on defense with 12 tackles, one fumble recovery and an interception.
“For a young team we played well,” Colts coach Jeff Scott said after the game. “Moving forward, we will be a team of adjustments. There are some things we feel we can fix in practice.”
The Bears rolled up 199 yards on the ground and scored three rushing touchdowns. Running back Anthony Galloway (18 carries 84 yards and two touchdowns) scored on runs of two and 26 yards. Bears quarterback Nick Lafontaine scored the first touchdown on the ground with 13-minutes, 44-seconds left in the second quarter. His scamper from a yard out was followed by a two-point conversion pass to Keimo Pelegri. That gave Kitsap an 8-0 lead.
Galloway’s 26-yard touchdown came just four minutes later. The two-point attempt failed, leaving the score at 14-0 with 9:22 until halftime. Colts kicker Mike Astley connected on a 25-yard field goal just before the half for a 14-3 score at the break.
Galloway’s added his 2-yard TD with 9:58 left in the game for a 21-3 lead. His run capped a 13-play drive that chewed six minutes off the clock. On the previous possession, the Colts drove down to the Bears 15-yard line but were unable to score when they turned it over on downs.
Outside of Astley’s field goal, the Colts managed two additional trips into the red zone, both drives ending on interceptions by Bears linebacker Dion Alexander.
The Colts drop to 0-1 on the season with the Bears boasting a 1-0 league record, 2-0 including their 17-0 preseason win over the Renton Ravens.
The Colts travel to play the Bellingham Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Saturday.
