Puyallup’s 23rd annual Spring Fair – the seventh largest fair in the state – opens this afternoon and runs through Sunday.

Kids up to 18 years receive free gate admission all day today, from 2-10 p.m. A recommended non-perishable donation for the Puyallup Food Band food drive is suggested.

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center, 110 9th Ave. SW.

A dynamic combination of fun and value prevails throughout the fair.

Military Appreciation Day, presented by 94.1 KMPS and KZOK 102.5 FM, is Friday, with free gate admission to active, reserve, retired military and their dependents with valid military ID.

For more savings, guests can purchase gate admission tickets, ride tickets or monster truck/demo derby tickets (motorsport savings available through today) in advance at www.thefair.com.

Also purchase advance gate tickets at Pierce and South King County Fred Meyer and Safeway stores, plus South Hill Mall.

New features include:

• Rock U: The Institute of Rock ‘N’ Roll: interactive exhibits, play and explore instruments in a rock band.

• NASCAR Experience: experience the thrill of a race car in an authentic simulator

• 100.7 The Wolf Rising Star Concert: JT Hodges performs at 6 p.m. Saturday at Coca-Cola Stage.

• Rockaraoke: try karaoke with a live band on Friday, 3-9 p.m.

• Motorsport Mayhem with a Monster Truck Show on Friday, and Slamfest Demo Derby on Saturday and Sunday. A spectacular fireworks show is a finale to the Saturday night demo derby at approximately 9.

While some make a visit to see baby animals, others prefer the Garden Show or shopping at more than 330 exhibitor booths. Take time to see 4-H and FFA students showing animals in the Northwest Junior Livestock Show, watch the Timberworks Lumberjack Show, and be amazed at the dancing horses at Fiesta Mexicana.

Adult gate tickets are $9 at the gate, and students (6-18 years) are $7 at the gate. Children 5 years and under are free. Parking is free.
