Stepped on by a bull | Fire blotter

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 336 total calls between July 22 and July 28, among them the following:

July 22

Car into building: 2:50 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to a report about a car that had crashed into an apartment building arrived to find a vehicle that had struck the ground floor of a three-story apartment building, causing significant damage. A city of Auburn building apartment representative scoped out the damage and determined that the walls needed to be shored up for emergency repairs. One occupant of the affected apartment unit suffered minor injuries but declined further care.

July 23

Aid call: 12:01 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated a woman who had fallen on her roof and hurt her back. After firefighters immobilized her to stave off further injuries, they lowered her safely from the roof, and then a private ambulance transported her to a local hospital.

July 24

Accident: 1:11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters hustling to an accident at West Valley Highway North and 15th Street Northwest arrived to find a semi-tractor trailer on its side. The driver, the only occupant of the only vehicle involved, suffered minor injuries and declined aid. Firefighters used absorbent to mitigate fluid spills and provided traffic control before clearing the scene, leaving Auburn Police on site.

July 25

Brush fire: 5:30 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and crews from Puget Sound, Renton, Enumclaw, Mountain View, Port of Seattle and Eastside Fire responded to a large three-alarm brush fire at 277th Street and Green River Road. Firefighters faced steep terrain and dense brush on the hillside, using wildland tactics such as a digging line, brushing and felling trees to reach and extinguish the fire. Long lays of forestry hose were deployed to douse the smoldering brush. The joint effort, which included personnel from a Zone 3 Incident Support Team, King County Medic One paramedics, and Zone 3 explorers, needed approximately eight hours to completely contain and extinguish the fire.

July 26

Aid call: 5:25 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responding to a senior citizen who was complaining of shortness of breath treated her until medics arrived and provided her with breathing treatment. A private ambulance then transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further care.

July 27

Aid call: 6:42 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters, Enumclaw Fire and Rescue, and King County Medic One evaluated and stabilized a man who’d been stepped on by a bull during a backyard rodeo, and then firefighters transported him to a local hospital for further care.

July 28

Aid call: 4:22 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters assessed and treated a man who had fallen and was struggling to catch his breath, and then transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.
