Sub shop brings new taste to Auburn | Briefs

S & S Sub Shop, featuring quality sandwiches at reasonable prices, opened its doors to serve the Auburn area.

Owners Steve Hu and Sherry Hirose, who are originally from Hawaii, provide a warm and relaxed atmosphere with a touch of aloha spirit.

Besides serving traditional submarine sandwiches, customers can find new flavors, such as citrus chicken, teriyaki meat ball and the Sounder (smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese and onion) for lox and bagel lovers.

S & S Sub Shop, located at 721 M St., Suite 103, is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Friday and 11-4 Saturday.

• David Wilde, a CPA who lives and works in Auburn, was chosen vice chairman for the Northwest Kidney Centers. The nonprofit dialysis and kidney health care provider recently appointed new officers and members of its board of trustees for 2009-2010.

Steve Huebner, a partner at KPMG in Seattle and a resident of Bellevue, was elected as chairman. Other officers include secretary/treasurer Craig Goodrich, who works in finance at Virginia Mason in Seattle and lives in Kent.

Wilde, John S. Capps, Deborah Crabbe, Joe Eschbach, Betty Halvorson, Dr. Robert Jaffe, Dr. Michael R. Kelly, James Manning, Dr. Vilma Quijada, Dr. Michael Ryan, and Dr. Stuart Shankland will continue to serve on the board.

The Northwest Kidney Centers Board of Trustees includes representatives from the medical and business community, as well as civic leaders, all who serve one- to three-year terms of office.

• The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), with offices in Auburn, recently awarded a five-year, $30 million contract to Hallam-ICS and its team to provide building information modeling (BIM) services to the GSA Region (10) Northwest/Arctic office.

The contract covers a wide range of BIM design and implementation services.

Founded in 1981, Hallam-ICS is an engineering, controls integration and commissioning firm with offices in Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Hallam-ICS has developed an engineering-focused BIM approach that has evolved from years of detailed 3D modeling of industrial process and building utility systems and from advanced building simulation expertise.

• Bananas Antiques and Washington Banana Museum celebrated its first anniversary. Located in Downtown Auburn at 120 East Main St., the store and museum, owned and operated by Benjamin Bigford and Ann Lovell, offers a unique look into the history of bananas as well as a vast selection of collectibles for sale.

• Mom’s Teriyaki, a “2009 Best of Auburn Finalist” in the Asian restaurant category has expanded into Kent. Located in a strip mall at 23615 104th Ave. SE, the restaurant is owned and managed by Gene Huh and offers the same 32 menu choices as the Auburn location, as well as soups and appetizers.

Dine-in and take-out service is available 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday.
