Sun mocked, deposed in sad saga

I think it's been a mockery. I've followed with interests the saga of former Pacific Mayor Cy Sun, and I think it's a case of cruel mocking and scourging to this man who was voted in and clearly won the election as mayor of this dilapidated-looking city.

I think it’s been a mockery.

I’ve followed with interests the saga of former Pacific Mayor Cy Sun, and I think it’s a case of cruel mocking and scourging to this man who was voted in and clearly won the election as mayor of this dilapidated-looking city. It was for the eradication of corruption that he campaigned on, and based on that, he clearly and cleanly won the election over the incumbent mayor, even as a write-in candidate.

The mockery on this man began on the very first day he assumed his elected position and met the City Council, wherein one of the members of the City Council pointed his finger at Mayor Sun and ordered him: “First thing tomorrow morning you come to my house and present your medals and credentials to me …” Can you imagine that? On his first day in office, Mayor Sun already received crude and harsh treatment from the City Council.

Mayor Sun is a war hero, who had laid his life for this country and who had won several medals and citations for his bravery in several close combat battles during the Korean War. And for somebody to point his finger at this war hero and to order him to come to this councilmember’s house and “present his medals,” is a picture of mockery of the first order.

And that, I believe, set off other mocking on this man that would be too long and repetitious to list as they have been reported on the Auburn Reporter many times over.

Foremost of these was his staged “arrest” by his own Pacific Police Department for breaking and entering the City Clerk’s office inside his own City Hall that was padlocked to prevent the mayor from retrieving files that were needed for an ongoing work project. And that mocking arrest was featured on the front page of the Auburn Reporter. From what I understand, he was released soon after the news photos were taken.

Secondly, were the decades-old charge of sexual assault (that were dropped because there were no basis for the charges), but nonetheless were dug up, to add to the mockery of Mayor Sun.

Thirdly, was that incident a couple of months back when the City Council were meeting some of the citizens of Pacific, and Mayor Sun was there. But when he tried to address the people at the meeting, he was told by the president of the City Council that he would be “out of place” to say anything to the citizens of Pacific. The mayor of Pacific out of place to address its citizens? Unbelievable.

Plus the fact he was even called a “geek” and a “gook” and “incompetent” and a “nuisance” on the online comments section of the Auburn Reporter. The list of mockery went on and on, but it would be redundant to mention them all in this letter, as they were already mentioned several times over in news reports and readers’ comments on this paper.

If only Mayor Sun and the City Council, to borrow Council President Leanne Guier’s words had “come together on a united front,” then this sad, disturbing saga of Mayor Sun and the City of Pacific would not had happened. Unfortunately, it was Guier’s leadership, I think, that made it all happened, that the mockery prevailed instead.
