Thawing in Auburn

Slushy street cleanup goes on; garbage pickup resumes; rain in the forecast | UPDATES

Auburn continues to clean up from a winter storm mess.

Rain will aid in the further melting of snow, although ice and slush will be possible on roadways during the transition. Water may channel through snow from yards onto area roads. Localized street flooding possible.

Early morning and overnight temperatures near or below freezing Thursday morning and again Thursday night may allow for refreeze, potentially creating icy/hazardous travel conditions on untreated streets.

Cold temperatures will impact those without power and area’s homeless population.

Heavy, wet snow will continue the threat for tree damage, power outages, and roof collapses.

As of noon Thursday, street crews went back on regular shifts. They had been working 24/7 to plow and sand priority routes and secondary routes.

The Auburn and Dieringer school districts ran two hours late Thursday. Green River Colleges also had a delayed start.

Waste haulers

Waste Management and Republic Services have resumed service Thursday.

Haulers have requested that customers place their containers at their curbs on their regular pickup days going forward. Extra items will be collected at no extra charge.

Waste Management is providing a convenient dropoff location for household garbage and recycling at the WM district facility at 701 Second St. NW, Auburn, available Feb. 14-16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Dropoff material is limited to household garbage and recycling. WM will accept up to twice as much material as you normally put in your cart.

Please bring a recent copy of your city bill to verify service. If you choose not to use a dropoff location, you may set out up to three times your usual amount of material on your next regular service day, at no additional charge.
