A three-vehicle collision at about 5:49 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28 on State Route 18 in between Federal Way and Auburn resulted in the hospitalizations of two men.
According to a news release from the Washington State Patrol, after a 46-year-old Tacoma woman stalled in lane two of three westbound on State Route 18, west of State Route 167, a Department of Transportation vehicle arrived on scene with flashing lights.
The driver of the Department of Transportation vehicle, a 47-year-old Spanaway man, exited the vehicle.
A 65-year-old Covington man driving a third vehicle collided with the Department of Transportation vehicle, slamming the Department of Transportation vehicle into the 47-year-old man and into the 46-year-old woman’s vehicle, according to the news release.
The Department of Transportation vehicle and the 46-year-old woman’s vehicle arrived at a stop in lane two. The 65-year-old Covington man’s vehicle arrived at a stop in lane one.
The collision resulted in two hours and 39 minutes of roadway blockages.
First responders transported the 47-year-old Spanaway man to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way and the 65-year-old Covington man to Valley Medical Center in Renton, both for injuries sustained in the collision. The 46-year-old woman escaped the incident without injury.
According to the news release, the Washington State Patrol arrested the 65-year-old man with a traffic infraction of negligent driving in the second degree, stating the collision resulted from negligence.
