The Vancouver Giants defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Friday night at the ShoWare Center.

The T-Birds gained a point on the seventh-place Everett Silvertips, who lost 6-3 to the Spokane Chiefs Friday night. They are now two points behind the Tips in the Western Conference playoff standings. The T-Birds and Silvertips meet at 7:05 tonight at Comcast Arena in Everett.

The T-Birds also moved three points ahead of the ninth-place Prince George Cougars, who lost 5-3 to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night, in the playoff standings.

The T-Birds and Giants meet at 5:05 p.m. Sunday at the ShoWare.

Vancouver outshot Seattle 9-8 in the first period.

Vancouver (15-43-0-0) took a 1-0 lead at 6:01 of the second period when Taylor Vickerman scored. Carter Popoff and Travis McEvoy had the assists.

The Giants outshot the T-Birds 10-7 in the second period and led 19-15 in total shots going into the second intermission.

Seattle (19-32-6-1) tied the game 1-1 at 5:43 of the third period on a shorthanded goal from Luke Lockhart. Jared Hauf sprung Luke Lockhart on a two-on-one break with a pass out of the Seattle zone. Lockhart had Adam Kambeitz on his right but elected to shoot. He beat Vancouver goalie Payton Lee over the glove and off the goal post.

The T-Birds went in front 2-1 at 9:57 of the third on Shea Theodore’s 14th goal of the season. Lockhart won a faceoff in the right circle back to Theodore at the right point. Theodore skated left, cut back right to beat a defender and then wristed a low shot on net with traffic in front of the goalie. The shot slid along the ice and beat Lee under the right pad.

The Giants tied the game 2-2 when Cain Franson scored a four-on-four goal at 11:54 of the third. Reid Zalitach had the only assist.

Vancouver outshot Seattle 13-12 in the third period and led 32-27 in shots after regulation.

Arvin Atwal won the game for Vancouver 23 seconds into overtime when he scored on a slap shot. Brendan Rouse and Jackson Houck had the assists on the goal.

Vancouver outshot Seattle 33-27 in the game.

Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh made 30 saves on 33 shots and his record is now 0-5-2-0.

Lee stopped 25 of 27 shots and his record is now 9-18-0-0.
