Top marching bands to compete in Auburn on Nov. 10

Auburn High School’s 26th annual Veterans Day Marching Band Competition unfolds Saturday, Nov. 10 at Auburn Memorial Stadium’s Troy Field, 800 4th St. NE.

The Auburn High School Band and Choir Parents are sponsoring the all-day event, from 1 to 9 p.m., featuring some of the best high school marching band music, precision marching and drill formation performances.

More than 30 of the finest high school marching bands from Washington and Oregon will compete in this year’s parade and field show competition.

According to event directors Sue Hoffman and Teena Bailie, the showcase is the largest, most prestigious and longest running marching band competition in Washington.

Twenty-five high school marching bands are expected to appear in the 47th annual Veterans Day Parade beginning at 11 a.m. along Main Street, which constitutes preliminary marching competition. Among those are bands expected to compete are schools from as far away as Clarkston, Spokane, Kennewick, Yakima, Bellingham, White Salmon, Montesano, the Kitsap Peninsula, Portland and Hermiston, Ore.

Mayor Pete Lewis and his wife, Kathy, Superintendent Dr. Kip Herren and Auburn principal Richard Zimmerman will present awards following a full-band retreat at 9 p.m. on Troy Field.

Ticket prices for all-day admission are: $15 adults; $10 students (ages 6-18); $10 seniors (62 and older); $10 military with active ID; $15 college students.

Proceeds benefit the Auburn High School Band and Choir programs.

Gates open at 1 p.m. with the first performance starting at 1:30 p.m. on Troy Field. Two full-service concession stands will be open during the competition. Handicap parking and seating is available in Auburn Memorial Stadium’s fully covered grandstand bleachers.
