Top Northwest teams to battle in King Showcase

Some of the top high school boys and girls basketball teams in the Pacific Northwest will battle it out at the King Showcase Presented by The Ram Restaurant, set for Monday, Jan. 20 at the ShoWare Center.

Some of the top high school boys and girls basketball teams in the Pacific Northwest will battle it out at the King Showcase Presented by The Ram Restaurant, set for Monday, Jan. 20 at the ShoWare Center.

The day of basketball is a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King.

A total of six boys games and two girls games make up the schedule for the third annual event, which starts with a 9 a.m. game between the third-ranked Class 4A Todd Beamer girls (10-0) and Kentwood (9-3). The other girls games is a matchup of top-10 teams as fifth-ranked Mount Rainier (9-2) takes on 10th-ranked Inglemoor (7-3) at 2:00 p.m.

Three of the boys teams are in the top 10 rankings. Class 4A Richland (11-0), ranked fourth, takes on Mount Rainier at 12 p.m.; Class 4A sixth-ranked Arlington (9-1) faces Newport at 10:30 a.m., while Class 3A ninth-ranked Mountlake Terrace (9-2) goes against Central Catholic (5-7) from Portland, which finished second in the Oregon 6A playoffs last year.

Other boys games include Auburn (8-5) against Foss (7-3) at 5 p.m.; Auburn Mountainview (4-7) taking on Timberline (7-5) and University of Washington recruit Donaven Dorsey at 7:00 p.m. and Kentwood (8-5) going against Enumclaw (11-2) at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students and are available at the door.

A tribute to Dr. King will take place at the girls game between Mount Rainier and Inglemoor at 2 p.m.
