The Renton Police Department arrested a trio for a shoplifting spree that’s suspected of being part of an organized retail theft operation throughout King County, resulting in over $143,000 in lost cosmetic products.
On Feb. 4, the RPD reported the arrest of three suspects who had allegedly gone on a shoplifting spree at multiple Ulta Beauty stores between late Oct. 2024 and early January. The suspects are Imiko Stark, 26, who faces four counts of organized retail theft; Vershawn Hairston, 25, who faces 10 counts of organized retail theft; and R’mani Sweet, who faces six counts of organized retail theft.
The trio is suspected of stealing high-end fragrances and cosmetics from stores in Renton, Federal Way, Auburn, Tukwila, Seattle, Issaquah, Redmond and Lakewood.
According to charging documents filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Jan. 8, 2025, the trio, either together or independently on multiple instances, were involved in 23 incidents of alleged organized retail theft. According to documents, Hairston stole $69,080 worth of products, Sweet stole $59,152 worth of products and Stark stole $15,609 worth of products.
According to documents, in various instances, the suspects would enter Ulta Beauty stores either with shopping bags already in their hands or would retrieve shopping bags from cross-body bags and then place products inside before leaving without offering payment. Documents state that the suspects would steal various makeup products, creams and fragrances. Detectives were then able to identify suspects who had been known for stealing and through identifying tattoos.
“Video surveillance shows the suspects’ casual nature as they pull items from the shelves, drop them in their bags, and leave the store without paying,” RPD reported.
According to the RPD, Hairston has had 22 prior convictions, and court documents show they include charges of false insurance claims, robbery, two organized retail thefts, three thefts, two assaults and domestic violence charges. Stark had three warrants out of the Lynnwood Municipal Court for hit and run, assault and theft, and Sweet had no prior charges.
Hairston was also charged on Jan. 6 for three other counts of alleged organized retail theft for specific incidents at the Auburn Ulta Beauty, from which he stole on Nov. 13, Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, 2024. According to documents, Hairston stole 85 cosmetic items worth $6,788 over the three days of shoplifting.
Sweet and Hairston were also charged in another case on Jan. 15, in which over two weeks allegedly Sweet stole from Ulta Beauty in Tukwila on four different occasions and Hairston once, taking over $35,000 worth of products.
