The seventh annual Shoes for Puppies charity horseshoe tournament will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the South Seattle Saddle Club, 22740 SE 228th St. in Maple Valley.

The entry cost is $50 per team, and entry forms are available at all union halls operated by Machinists Union District Lodge 751 in Puget Sound, including the Auburn Hall, at 201 A St. SW, and the Renton Hall, at 233 Burnett Ave. N. Entry forms also can be obtained by calling the Machinists’ Seattle Hall at 206-763-1300

The day-long event, sponsored by Machinists Local 751-E, is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America.

The tournament is part of a full weekend of family festivities, which will include a Saturday evening barbecue, a wide range of activities for children, a rock band for dancing and free camping at the Saddle Club for all participants.

“Our horseshoe tournament is always a lot of fun, and the money we raise goes for a very important cause,” said Ira Carterman, who is the president of Local 751-E.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers is a major supporter of Guide Dogs of America, which places trained guide dogs with people who are blind or have impaired vision across the United States and Canada. Last year, Machinists District Lodge 751 – of which Local 751-E is a part – raised nearly a quarter-million dollars for the charity.
