Between March 24 and March 30, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following calls:
CPR: March 24 (Auburn) Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responded to a cardiac arrest at a local dialysis center, where staff had already defibrillated the person three times before firefighters got there. Firefighters and medics worked together to stabilize the person before transporting him or her to St. Francis Medical Center.
Aid call: 10:22 a.m. March 25 (Pacific). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responding to an unconscious man began CPR and provided advanced care. The man regained a pulse, and Medic One transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Automatic fire alarm: 12:49 p.m. March 26 (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a small two-story home where the homeowner was unaware that a smoke detector had activated because he or she was outside doing yard work. Firefighters entered with the homeowner and found light smoke throughout the house from burnt food on the stove. They helped with smoke removal and reset the alarm system.
Hazardous materials: 11:18 a.m. March 27 (Algona). Firefighters responded to reports of an unknown white powder inside a business. One employee had already gone to a local hospital with respiratory symptoms before firefighters arrived. Multiple employees were exposed and were isolated as a precaution. A Zone 3 HazMat response was requested, bringing in technicians from South King Fire, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, and Renton Regional Fire Authority. After investigation, the substance was identified as an illicit drug. The scene was turned over to Algona PD for further investigation.
Collision: 3:53 p.m. March 28 (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a multi-vehicle collision with injuries, then evaluated and treated one person for a possible chest injury. An aid car transported him or her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Aid call: 2 p.m. March 29 (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a man who had been found unconscious by a family member. The family member and a friend were performing CPR with guidance from a 911 dispatcher. Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics took over resuscitation efforts, but they were not successful. The cause of death has not been determined.
Service call: 11:17 a.m. March 30 (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a report of a three-year-old child who had locked his mother out of their apartment. Firefighters used a ground ladder to access an unlocked second-story window, entered the unit, and unlocked the front door.
