Valley Com offers Citizens’ Academy

Valley Communications Center, the 911 center located in Kent, is offering its fourth Citizens’ Academy. The nine-week program will introduce the public to emergency communications, covering all aspects of the 911 process, from the time a call is received to the moment a police, fire or medical dispatch are initiated.

Classes will be held Wednesday evenings from 7-to-9, beginning April 15, with the final class on June 3.

Participants will have the opportunity to observe working 911 call receivers and dispatchers as they handle emergency police, fire and medical calls from around the South King County area.

The academy is open to citizens living or working within the service area of the center. Class size is limited to 16. Applicants must successfully undergo a law enforcement background check.
