Vehicle crashes into apartment building’s transformer box | Fire blotter

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 356 calls for service between Sept. 2 and Sept. 8, among them the following:

Sept. 2

Aid call: 9:10 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics evaluated and treated a man who had been complaining of chest pain, and then motored him to a local hospital for further care.

Sept. 3

Aid call: 9:28 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a man who was complaining of pain from an injury he had suffered while he was working on a vehicle, and then arranged for a private ambulance to transport him to the VA hospital in Seattle for further examination.

Sept. 4

Vehicle fire: 4:30 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a vehicle that had collided with a transformer box and caught fire found the car fully aflame after an impact that had pushed the box several feet from its base near a five-story apartment building. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire, preventing further damage, and then called in Puget Sound Energy to handle the power emergency. Auburn Police and a VRFA fire investigator got busy working to determine the cause of the crash.

Aid call: 7:12 p.m. (Auburn). Aided by a hospice nurse over the phone, firefighters stabilized a man with end-stage cancer who was struggling to breathe, and then helped the family arrange for hospice care. The family declined hospital transport.

Sept. 5

CPR: 8:40 a.m. (Auburn), Firefighters and King County paramedics provided CPR and advanced life-support measures to a man who was in cardiac arrest. Their efforts revived the man, and then personnel transported him to a local emergency room for more life-saving care.

Sept. 7

Stabbing: (Enumclaw). Responding to a reported double stabbing, VRFA firefighters, Mountain View Fire and Rescue, and the Enumclaw Fire Department treated a stabbing victim, a person who had passed out after the assault, and three additional people who had sustained minor injuries during the incident. Personnel established command, helped King County Medic One paramedics with their jobs, and coordinated the airlifting of two critically injured patients.

Sept. 8

Gun shot: 1:57 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics treated a man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and then Airlift Northwest flew him to Harborview Medical Center.
