The Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall Exhibit – a half-scale replica of the Washington, D.C-based Vietnam Memorial Wall – sets down in the leafy shade of Auburn’s Veterans Memorial Park, 411 E St. NE, on Nov. 8-11, in conjunction with Auburn’s 48th annual Veterans Day Parade & Observance.
The Wall features the dramatic replica as well as an information center and traveling museum displaying memorabilia left at The Wall in Washington, D.C. The exhibit is open to the public 24 hours a day and is recommended for all ages or groups.
Widely known as “The Wall That Heals,” the 50-percent scale replica displays the names of 58,249 men and women killed or missing in action from the Vietnam War conflict, including 1,116 from Washington state, 13 of those from Auburn. The Wall That Heals stretches nearly 250 feet in total length.
About ‘The Wall That Heals’
Established in 1979, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Today, through a series of outreach programs, the organization works to preserve the legacy of The Wall, to promote healing and to educate about the impact of the Vietnam War and is building the Vietnam Memorial Center, an underground educational facility, near The Wall.

About Auburn’s Veterans Day Observance
The National Veterans Day Committee and the U.S. Department of Defense have once again selected the City of Auburn as one of the few regional sites for Veterans Day Observance in 2013. The mile-long parade includes military marching units and vehicles, veteran service organizations, marching bands, honor guards, drill teams, community and scouting groups, as well as floats, antique cars, community groups and more. The official start of the parade is Main Street and E Street NE. The parade will proceed west on Main Street to A St. NW.
The public is invited to the Remembrance Ceremony and Lighting of the Flame, on Saturday, Nov.r 9 at 9:45 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. The half-hour ceremony, presented by the American Legion – Auburn Post No. 78, with the help of the Inter-Tribal Warrior Society and the City of Auburn includes patriotic music, an honor guard, and a 21-gun salute. The Auburn Riverside High School Band will perform the National Anthem during the ceremony.
Other events related to the Veterans Day celebration in Auburn include the American Legion Breakfast, a static display & exhibit showcase on Division Street, a Noon Lions Luncheon, the state’s largest marching band competition and other events.
