For the Reporter
Auburn’s Fenster Nature Park fall planting project needs help for its Oct. 11 volunteer event.
Volunteers are needed to plant and mulch approximately 8,000 native plants at the Fenster Nature Park along the Green River.
The plantings are part of a larger levee setback project just completed in cooperation with the City of Auburn and King County. The project will improve salmon habitat and provide flood protection from the Green River.
Service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, scouting troops, businesses and individuals are asked to come together and work on the environmental project.
Limited tools will be available so volunteers are asked to bring shovels, pitch forks, buckets, wheelbarrows and gardening or work gloves. Participants are encouraged to wear T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, or other clothing that identifies their volunteer group.
The agenda for Saturday, Oct. 11 is as follows:
• 8 a.m. – Check in at Fenster Nature Park Project Site, 2033 Fourth St. SE. The City will provide volunteers with juice, coffee, pastries and granola bars.
• 8:10 a.m. – Welcome and project Instructions
• 8:15 a.m. – Volunteer project starts
Register online via the City’s website or you may also download registration information and return the form by mail or fax.
