Voting in the King Conservation District Internet-based election for board of supervisor Position No. 2 continues through next Tuesday.

It is one of the first elections of its kind in the U.S. The secure, two-step voting procedure provides registered voters in King County with the convenience of voting from home, business or other computer locations. Candidates include Douglas “Bruce” Elliott, Kent; Teri Herrera, Redmond; Eric K. Nelson, Duvall; and Preston Prudente of Sammamish.

To vote online, voters must first complete an eligibility application submitted by email, fax or U.S. mail (submittals by U.S. mail should be postmarked by Friday, March 11 for online voting by 9 p.m. March 15). The King CD will also provide a one-day, “in-person” voting option at its Renton office on March 15 between 9 a.m. to 9 pm. The district’s offices are located at 1107 SW Grady Way.

Individuals registered to vote in King County (excluding residents of cities that are not members of the King Conservation District: Enumclaw, Federal Way, Milton, Pacific and Skykomish) are eligible to vote.

The King CD encompasses most of King County and delivers natural resources information and technical and funding assistance for stewardship efforts by landowners. It is one of 46 conservation districts in Washington State.

King CD board

The all-volunteer, five-member board includes three elected members and two who are appointed by the Washington State Conservation Commission. All supervisors serve three-year terms. As public officials, their responsibility is to ensure that the King CD meets its legal and public trust obligations. The board of supervisors conducts regular public meetings to oversee the district’s budget and provide policy guidance and oversight to district staff.
