At 2:58 a.m. Valley Com dispatched the Valley Regional Fire Authority to a stove fire in a two-story apartment building in south Auburn.
Firefighters arriving at the building at 1506 30th S.E. found smoke in the center hallways of the apartment building. Food left on a stove on the first floor had started a fire that spread to the surrounding cabinets. Somebody had left the apartment door open, filling the first and second center hallways with smoke.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and occupants told them that a woman was getting ready to jump from a second-floor window. Firefighters used a ladder to safely evacuate the woman. Firefighters evacuated the rest of the structure and used fans to remove the smoke.
There were no injuries, but damage is estimated to be $10,000.
