The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 190 calls for service, between Aug. 20 and 26, among them the following:
Aug. 20
Aid Call: 7:45 p.m., (Pacific). After realizing that a man who initial reports said had suffered a stroke was really suffering from low blood sugar, firefighters gave him some juice and food, thereby raising his blood sugar to an acceptable level. Firefighters left the man with his wife at home where she could keep an eye on him overnight.
Aug. 21
Aid Call: 10:36 a.m., (Auburn). Fire personnel examined a man with high blood pressure and a private ambulance carted him off in stable condition to Valley Medical Hospital for further evaluation.
Aug. 22
Aid Call: 1:33 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters and King County Medics treated a woman who’d been complaining of chest pressure and drove her to a local hospital for further treatment.
Aug. 23
Odor Investigation: 1:10 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to the smell of natural gas in a business worked with a Puget Sound Energy representative to monitor the environment but couldn’t find source for the stink.
Aug. 24
Overdose: 12:04 a.m.. (Algona). Having responded to a possible overdose on prescription medications, firefighters examined and treated the person and a private ambulance drove him or her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
Aug. 25
Mutual Aid: 6:59 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters, Pierce County Medics and East Pierce fire personnel hustled to Lake Tapps to treat and stabilize a young girl struck by a boat. Medics transported the girl to Mary Bridge Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Aug. 26
Aid Call: 4:22 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters came on the double to help an elderly woman who had sustained multiple injuries in a fall one week earlier and was suffering new pains in her chest. A private ambulance carried her to St. Francis.
