The VRFA responded to 240 requests for service between Nov. 21 and 27, among them the following:
Nov. 21
Aid call: 12:15 p.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a senior citizen who was experiencing symptoms of a stroke, and then transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
Nov. 22
Carbon monoxide alarm: 2:14 p.m., (Auburn). While a homeowner was washing the driveway in front of his garage door, the pressure washer pushed carbon monoxide into the home and activated a carbon monoxide alarm. The firefighters who responded to the man’s 911 call ventilated the home with a large fan before turning the home back over to him. Firefighters also called in Puget Sound Energy to ensure there were no leaking gas appliances.
Nov. 23
Aid call: 7:11 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated an elderly man who was complaining of a rapid heart rate, and a private ambulance transported him to MAMC.
Nov. 24
Aid call: 10:49 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters bandaged an older man’s wound after he fell and hit his head on a chair, and a private ambulance transported him to MAMC for further treatment.
Nov. 25
House fire: 6:09 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters who had been dispatched to a house fire in the 31400 block of 117th Place Southeast found a small fire that had started in a window sill flower box on the back of the house. Although flames had fractured the window, the fire spread no farther than the back of the house, and firefighters worked to keep it that way. The fire did an estimated $9,000 in damage to the house, but nobody was hurt. A VRFA investigator is trying to determine the fire’s cause.
Nov. 26
Aid call: 11 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters splinted the knee of a boy who had injured it at wrestling practice, and a private ambulance motored him to a local hospital.
Nov. 27
Aid call: 8:05 a.m.,(Pacific). Firefighters and King County Medics treated a woman who was complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath, and a private ambulance transported her to St. Francis Hospital.
