Jan. 4
Residential fire: 10:46 p.m., (Algona). Having responded to a chimney fire on 5th Avenue North in Algona, firefighters discovered the fire had spread to the attic space, so they upgraded the incident to a full-residential response. About four minutes later, a significant portion of the roof collapsed, and firefighters turned to a defensive strategy to snuff out the fire. The fire displaced two men, so the VRFA asked for Red Cross support.
