The Valley Regional Fire Authority hosts its annual Scout Night at the Fire Station on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Lakeland Hills Station No. 33, 500 182nd Ave. E., Auburn.

Boy and Girl Scouts from the Algona, Auburn and Pacific area are invited to join VRFA firefighters from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening offers a tour of the fire station and informative sessions about fire safety, basic first aid training, cooking safety, knot tying, bicycle safety, forensics and information on how to be prepared for a disaster.

Scouts and their leaders can attend any or all of the 11 learning stations. Firefighters and guest instructors from the Auburn Police Department, King County E-911 and the City of Auburn Emergency Management Division will provide information on bike safety and forensics, how and when to call 911 and disaster preparedness.

Other stations will include activities on how to make their homes safe, change the batteries and test their smoke alarms, treat minor injuries, tie knots, and how to design and practice a home fire escape plan. They will also learn about Automated External Defibrillators (AED), tips for cooking safely and see firsthand the tools and equipment used by firefighters while learning more about a career in the fire service.

During the year the VRFA receives dozens of requests for station tours from local scouting groups. Consolidating all the needs of the scouts into a single event has proven to be a better experience for both the scouts and VRFA staff. “Scout Night offers a more in-depth learning experience for the scouts combined with a fun evening at the fire station,” said Deputy Fire Chief Tim Day.

The event is open to scout groups and all other youth explorer and adventure groups. To register in advance and ask questions about the event, contact Public Information & Education Officers, Kelly Tyson at 253-288-5882 or Kimberly Terhune at 253-288-5881 or by email at Public.Info@vrfa.org.
