Valley Regional Fire Authority Chief Financial Officer Mark Horaski has been named Chief Financial Executive of the Year for Government in the South Sound. Heritage Bank presented and Moss-Adams LLP & Business Examiner Media sponsored the award at a luncheon event in Tacoma on March 22.

Horaski was recognized for his sustained superior service, his expertise in financial management and stewardship of VRFA’s financial resources, development of financial and human resources to support the organization, and service outside of the organization in the community.

Specifically, the judges noted Horaski’s tenure free of audit findings, his development of financial staff to meet organizational needs, the refinancing of bonds – saving the taxpayers nearly $1 million dollars over the term of the bonds – and his volunteer service in our community as a treasurer, board member and now president of Auburn Rotary.

“I am pleased the judges recognized what we at the VRFA knew – Mark is a man of strong character and professional acumen, who has contributed greatly to the success of our organization,” said VRFA’s Administrator Eric Robertson. “The organization is well positioned to serve our communities, and our financial stewardship and sustained stability is a principle reason.”

Horaski, who has served on the management team of the VRFA for nine years, received his bachelor of commerce (honors) from the University of Manitoba, and is a certified public accountant. He and his wife, Erin, have three children and live in Bonney Lake.

The nominees are sought from South King, Pierce, Thurston and Mason counties from business, nonprofit and government organizations. Horaski was one of three finalists in the government category. After an extensive nomination, interview and judging process, Horaski was honored with the award.
