Donald Williams Shephard
Donald Williams Shephard passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2015 at the age of 94.
He was born September 9, 1920 on a small farm in Puyallup, Washington to Hannibal and Ethel Shephard. He was the youngest of six children: Reginald, William, Cecil, Ethel, and Stanley.
After graduating from Sumner High School, Don married his high school sweetheart Maxine Hamerly on September 13, 1941. Don and Maxine went on to raise their five children: Gail Hawkins, Roxanne Coffey, Larry Shephard, Michelle Shephard and John Shephard.
Don was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Following his service in WWII, he went to dental school at the University of Oregon in Portland. He opened a dental practice in Auburn Washington where he practiced for 33 years. Of Don’s many hobbies, one of his favorites was watching his beloved Seahawks and he was glad to see them win the Super Bowl last year. Don also enjoyed amateur radio (he volunteered for many years with the Civil Defense), computers and flying radio-controlled model airplanes. He enjoyed working with his hands. He would build most of his ham radios and make his model airplanes. Don built a 24 foot boat in his garage in the late 50’s, a
21 foot mobile home in his back yard in the late 60’s and an electric car in the early 80’s.
After retiring from dentistry, he traveled with his wife and friends to many places around the world.
Left to mourn Don’s passing are his 5 children,
10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and his friends at Willow Gardens. A special thank you to Denise Benn for her kindness and loving care she provided to Don.
Don will be missed by all who knew him and will remain in their hearts forever.
At Don’s request, there will not be a service.
