Elaine Grad Hoffman, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Auburn Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Elaine was born November 12, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the oldest of five children by John and Wanda (Zabowski) Grad. Elaine grew up in Beaver where she graduated from Beaver High School in 1953. She later graduated from Indiana University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Elaine was a compassionate woman who loved her family. She was married to G. Wright Hoffman for 50 years and was a mother to five children. She enjoyed playing bridge, exercising, and was an avid animal lover. One of her most rewarding jobs outside of the home was her time working as a Teacher Aide at Gildo Rey Elementary in Auburn.
Elaine is survived by her husband; five children, Mary Lovette, Theresa (Robin) Gernhardt, Donald (Helen) Anderson, Judy (Thomas) Bluhm, and Linda (Eric) Hoffman; 12 grandchildren, Angela (Jordan) Louie, Katie (Joseph) McKinney, Timothy Lovette, James (Kyra) Bluhm, Christopher (Melissa) Anderson, Stephanie Bluhm, Bridget Anderson, Elisabeth Hoffman, Caroline Hoffman, Julia Hoffman, Allison Hoffman and Adelaide Hoffman; 7 great grandchildren, Makayla (Walker) Polly, Xavier Schleining, Emma Schleining, Carly Louie, Asher McKinney, Bryant McKinney, and Jade McKinney; two brothers John (Sundie) Grad, Charles (Marilyn) Grad; two sisters Mary Grad, and Lucy MacAllister.
Elaine was preceded in death by former husband, William H. Anderson, great granddaughter Katelynn Elaine Schleining, and her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm, February 16, 2019 at Auburn First United Methodist Church, 100 N St SE, Auburn, WA 98002.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Auburn Valley Humane Society.
