Elwood L. “Bick” Bickford
Elwood “Bick” Bickford, 79, passed away on June 4, 2011 in Auburn, WA. He was born on August 23, 1931 in Yakima, WA to Curtis H. Bickford and Emma Metzler Bickford. The family moved to Spokane, WA in 1934. Bick went to work for Bell Telephone in 1952, the same year that he married Dorothy Guarisco. He transferred to Auburn in 1963, retiring from US West in 1984, after 32 years of service. After retiring, he worked at UHaul of Auburn, AA Asphalting,Inc., volunteered at the Auburn Food Bank and delivered flowers for Alice Octavia Florist at age 77. Bick had a huge heart and made friends where ever he went. He loved jokes and kept several large binders of photo-copied jokes to pass on to anyone that would get a chuckle. He would greet the ladies in the office of his apartment complex each morning with a new joke, waiting for them to read it so he could enjoy their reaction. As it became more difficult to walk distances, Bick acquired a scooter, and enjoyed cruising to Fred Meyer each day for his newspaper. Bick is survived by his daughters, Vickie Ray of Pacific, Kathy Bickford of Auburn and Pat (Eric) Johnson of Enumclaw; grandchildren Heather Serna of Hutchinson, KS, Brittney Ray of Auburn and Sam Johnson of Enumclaw; great-grandchildren, Steven Serna, Ryan Serna & Bradley Serna of Hutchinson, KS; brother Clifford Bickford of Roseville, CA, sisters Crystal Faydo of Spokane, WA & Patricia Comegy of Silverdale, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Gregg and brother Maynard Bickford. A memorial service was held on June 9, 2011 at Overcomer Covenant Church in Auburn. The family suggests that donations be made to the Auburn Food Bank in his honor.
